One of the fundamental issues in the hot direct extrusion process is the effect of strain on the life cycle of extrusion die. By studying and comparing the instantaneous strain values and the factors affecting the instantaneous strain values, the life cycle of a direct extrusion die made of tool steel and a billet of 6063 aluminum can be determined under various conditions. In this study, first, by considering the existing variable conditions, which are: temperature, strain rate, die guide length, and die curvature radius, 27 experiments are designed using the response surface method using Minitab software. In the next step, each of the 27 specified experiments is simulated using Abaqus software to determine the instantaneous strain values for each experiment. Then, through life cycle determination approach based on instantaneous strain values, the life cycle of each of the 27 designed dies is determined. Finally, the validation of the designed experimental model, the investigation of the relationship between variable parameters through the regression equation, the determination of life cycle values for the designed experiments, and the impact of each variable parameter on the life cycle of extrusion dies are examined.
